Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe

So not exactly unknown/non-mainstream, and I know a lot of people are probably predisposed to hating this just because its pop and probably played incessantly in the western hemisphere, but I only ran across it by accident and it’s catchy and not terrible.

There’s also a couple of great little videos and stuff for it.

Here’s the original version of the song and video:

Then there was this slightly NSFW, disturbing chatroullete version by (comedian?) Steve Kardynal

And then this fun ensemble version using elementary school instruments with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots all crammed into a dressing room

Kanye West – Heartless & Cover

Messing around on Youtube I ran across Kanye West’s song Heartless, which, surprisingly, even though it isn’t generally the type of music I like, I thought was a pretty good song. Other than a few (obviously intentional) grammar/pronunciation mistakes, the lyrics are also interesting and well written, which seems a pretty rare thing for a lot of pop/R&B/HipHop/etc. music anymore.

I dug through a bunch of covers of it too, because I thought the song seemed like it would work well as a guitar song, unfortunately most of them weren’t very good, but I did find one acoustic cover, apparently by (a member of?) a band called Stealing Jane that was pretty good, so here’s the original:
